El Oro Parakeet at Buenaventura, Ecuador

A family group of El Oro Parakeet (Pyrrhura orcesi) taken during Rockjumper’s South Ecuador tour in March 2016 at Buenaventura, El Oro province, Ecuador. This rare species is endemic to Ecuador, has a very localized distribution, and has an Endangered status. The Jocotoco conservation foundation is working hand-in-hand with eco-tourism and has been successful in protecting the population within the Buenaventura reserve by purchasing the habitat and placing nest boxes for the parakeets. Go birding and support the protection of Endangered species at the same time!
